I love eating fresh sweet apricots. Another reason I love apricots is because they are very healthy. Some people get confused between apricots and peaches. Apricots are smaller, less fuzzy and their kernels (or seeds) have a smooth shell. Peaches on the other hand are larger than apricots, and they have much fuzzier skin and their seeds have a really thick and veiny shell. In this article I’ll be talking mainly about apricots, but if you want to read about peaches, then go to this article called “Peaches Nutrients and Benefits“.

Binomial name of apricots is Prunus Armeniaca from the family of Rosaceae. In Russian language apricot is called Aбрикос, you can pronounce it like this Abreekoss, or something like that ;) Some people believe that apricots are native fruits of Armenia, because of its scientific name Prunus Armeniaca which means Armenian Plum. Apricot trees are pretty sensitive to big temperature changes, but the healthier trees should be able to withstand those temperatures.

The top 20 producing countries by quantity of Apricots in 2008 were: Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Italy, Algeria, Japan, Morocco, Spain, Egypt, Syrian Arab Republic, France, Ukraine, China, Greece, USA, Afghanistan, Russia, South Africa, and Lebanon. I found this data on Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations website.

Some people believe that apricot kernels (or seeds) in Central Asia and around Mediterranean are as yummy and sweet as almonds. For thousands of years now many countries from around the world have been using apricot kernels (or seeds) for different kinds of medicine treatments, especially cancer. Laetrile, also known as Amygdalin, or Vitamin B-17 is derived from apricot kernels (or seeds). Some scientists believe that it is not a Vitamin. Anyway, many people, organizations, or doctors believe that Laetrile is “The Cure For Cancer”. On the other hand the US Food and Drug Administration prohibits promoting, using, and selling Laetrile as The Cure or Treatment For Cancer. Why? I truly don’t know who to trust, but some study claimed that Laetrile is a toxic drug and is Not effective as a cancer treatment. Also, some believe that Purified Amygdalin (or Apricot Seeds) ingestion can cause severe toxicity and/or death due to cyanide poisoning. To read more about Vitamin B-17 you can Click Here.

Well, I don’t know who to believe about Vitamin B-17 now. I do know that both of them have to be telling the truth. Maybe people who overdose on B-17 get sick or die… I don’t know… You can overdose almost on anything, that is why you never consume too much of anything. Also, knowing that America is messed up because of its hungry-for-money doctors, it’s just very hard to believe anything that comes out of their mouth. Whatever you decide, just be careful. If it’s illegal to sell it as a drug in USA, then don’t do it, but if you do, then get ready to go to prison and pay a huge fine.

I can tell you this for sure, eating a normal portion of apricots themselves without the kernels can’t hurt you, instead it will only make you healthier. Why? Because the Nutrients in one cup (or 165 grams) of sliced raw Apricots are:

- Vitamin A (Large Amount)
- Vitamin B2, Riboflavin

Since I pretty much have all or most of the popular fruits, vegetables, nuts, and meats in my blog collection, I decided to update some of the very first ones. My earlier article posts weren’t as detailed, full, and interesting as newer ones. The reason for that is because I’m noticing that I got some more and some better experience in writing about the Nutrients and Health Benefits of different kinds of foods. So, this article is going to be an update of my older article post about Strawberries Nutrients and Benefits. Only I’ll give this article a little bit different title, let’s call it Strawberries Nutrients and Health Benefits.

Did you know that Strawberries are not really considered as berries? It’s because the red yummy part of the strawberry is called a Receptacle. Botanically speaking, Receptacle is the thick part of a stem from which flower’s organs grow, but in the strawberries the Receptacle gives the rise to the red edible part. The seeds of the Strawberry are called Achenes. Achenes are a type of a simple dry fruit. In other words, Strawberries are considered as an Aggregate Accessory Fruit.

Strawberries are in the Fragaria Genus and are in the Rosaceae Family. Strawberries have more than 20 different species among them. These fruits are an important commercial fruit crop around the world. People can enjoy Strawberries in fruits shakes, fruit salads, or just fresh by themselves. Even though most people can eat them and be happy about it, some people are allergic to them, probably because of the seeds. So, until you fix your allergy problem, you should stay away from Strawberries.

The Nutrients in one cup (or 152 grams) of Raw Strawberry halves are:

- Vitamin A
- Vitamin B1, Thiamin
- Vitamin B2, Riboflavin
- Vitamin B3, Niacin
- Vitamin B5, Pantothenic Acid
- Vitamin B6, Pyridoxine
- Vitamin B9, Folate, Folic Acid
- Vitamin C (Extreme Amount)
- Vitamin E
- Vitamin K
- Choline
- Betaine
- Protein
- Calcium
- Omega 3 Fatty Acids
- Omega 6 Fatty Acids
- Carbohydrates
- Dietary Fiber
