I love eating fresh sweet apricots. Another reason I love apricots is because they are very healthy. Some people get confused between apricots and peaches. Apricots are smaller, less fuzzy and their kernels (or seeds) have a smooth shell. Peaches on the other hand are larger than apricots, and they have much fuzzier skin and their seeds have a really thick and veiny shell. In this article I’ll be talking mainly about apricots, but if you want to read about peaches, then go to this article called “Peaches Nutrients and Benefits“.

Binomial name of apricots is Prunus Armeniaca from the family of Rosaceae. In Russian language apricot is called Aбрикос, you can pronounce it like this Abreekoss, or something like that ;) Some people believe that apricots are native fruits of Armenia, because of its scientific name Prunus Armeniaca which means Armenian Plum. Apricot trees are pretty sensitive to big temperature changes, but the healthier trees should be able to withstand those temperatures.

The top 20 producing countries by quantity of Apricots in 2008 were: Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Italy, Algeria, Japan, Morocco, Spain, Egypt, Syrian Arab Republic, France, Ukraine, China, Greece, USA, Afghanistan, Russia, South Africa, and Lebanon. I found this data on Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations website.

Some people believe that apricot kernels (or seeds) in Central Asia and around Mediterranean are as yummy and sweet as almonds. For thousands of years now many countries from around the world have been using apricot kernels (or seeds) for different kinds of medicine treatments, especially cancer. Laetrile, also known as Amygdalin, or Vitamin B-17 is derived from apricot kernels (or seeds). Some scientists believe that it is not a Vitamin. Anyway, many people, organizations, or doctors believe that Laetrile is “The Cure For Cancer”. On the other hand the US Food and Drug Administration prohibits promoting, using, and selling Laetrile as The Cure or Treatment For Cancer. Why? I truly don’t know who to trust, but some study claimed that Laetrile is a toxic drug and is Not effective as a cancer treatment. Also, some believe that Purified Amygdalin (or Apricot Seeds) ingestion can cause severe toxicity and/or death due to cyanide poisoning. To read more about Vitamin B-17 you can Click Here.

Well, I don’t know who to believe about Vitamin B-17 now. I do know that both of them have to be telling the truth. Maybe people who overdose on B-17 get sick or die… I don’t know… You can overdose almost on anything, that is why you never consume too much of anything. Also, knowing that America is messed up because of its hungry-for-money doctors, it’s just very hard to believe anything that comes out of their mouth. Whatever you decide, just be careful. If it’s illegal to sell it as a drug in USA, then don’t do it, but if you do, then get ready to go to prison and pay a huge fine.

I can tell you this for sure, eating a normal portion of apricots themselves without the kernels can’t hurt you, instead it will only make you healthier. Why? Because the Nutrients in one cup (or 165 grams) of sliced raw Apricots are:

- Vitamin A (Large Amount)
- Vitamin B1, Thiamin
- Vitamin B2, Riboflavin

Today’s post is going to be about a mushroom with a funny name called Jew’s Ear. Some people call it Jelly Ear, Pepeao, Ear Fungus, Chinese Fungus, Pig’s Ear, Wood Ear, Tree Ear, Kirukage, or Binomially speaking Auricularia auricula-judae. This mushroom is edible and it usually grows on some kind of dead or living woods, especially on Elder Trees. People call this mushroom a Jew’s Ear because it was formerly called Judas Ear. Why? Because some people believe that Judas Iscariot, after betraying Jesus Christ The Son of God, hanged himself from an Elder Tree and his spirit came back as a mushroom. Well, since this mushroom grows mostly on an Elder Tree and it looks like an ear, then some people decided that it should be called Judas Ear which later on became known as a Jew’s Ear. The part where Judas betrayed Jesus Christ is totally true, but the spirit of Judas coming back as a mushroom is not true. Some cultures and countries use Jew’s Ear mushroom for food and/or as a medicine, but others complain about the side effects of this mushroom and stay away from it. In China it is very popular to eat a soup that contains Jew’s Ear mushroom, especially when someone has a cold or a fever.

I really like this particular post about this particular fruit. I don’t even think that it should be called any other name then Extreme Amount of Vitamin C. The real name for this very awesome small fruit is Acerola. So far and as far as I know this cute little fruit contains the most amount of vitamin C in it then any other fruit in the world. In fact, just one whole Raw Acerola Fruit (weighs about 5 grams) contains about 133% of Daily Value per one serving, and just one cup of Raw Acerola fruits (weighs about 98 grams) contains about 2740% of Daily Value per one serving. Now, is that insane or what, no, it is awesome dudes. The only bad part about this fruit is that you don’t even hear about it in the USA and I haven’t seen it in stores. If you want to be able to get this Acerola fruits constantly then you need to be somewhere around the places where people can grow them, and that is in India, Brazil, Bahia, Peru, Mexico, Caribean, and maybe in southern Texas USA. Other names that you could hear people reffering to this fruit are like Malpighia Glabra, Barbados Cherry, West Indian Cherry, and Wild Crapemyrtle. People say that Acerola tastes sweet and at the same time sour too. Sometimes you could get a nice sweet one, but the ones that taste more sour it leave your mouth with a more tarty taste. The Size of Acerola fruit is about the size of a nice large Cherry. The Acerola fruit or berry (some people refer to it as a berry) grows on a small tree or a fruit shrub. Here is the full list of Nutrients in about a cup of Raw Acerola Fruits:
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin B1, Thiamin
- Vitamin B2, Riboflavin
- Vitamin B3, Niacin
- Vitamin B5, Pantothenic Acid
- Vitamin B9, Folate
- Vitamin C (EXTREME amount)
- Calcium
- Iron
- Magnesium
- Phosphorus
- Potassium
- Zinc
- Copper
- Selenium
- Protein
- Calories
- Carbohydrates
- Dietary Fiber
- Natural Fats

The List of benefits is not too big because only Vitamin C is extremely high in this Acerola Fruit and the rest of the nutrients are in extremely low amounts, but either way here is the list of benefits for Acerola Fruit:
- Improves Healing of Wounds
- Protects from Frequent Colds
- Protects from Frequent Infections
- Lowers chance of Lung Problems
- Protects from Free Radicals
- Reduces Chances of Many Cancers
- Improves Eyesight
- Fights Viral infections
- Reduces Chances of Vision Loss
- Reduces Chances of Constipation
- Improves Blood circulation
- Supports Bone health
- Relaxes Nerves
- Relaxes Muscles
- Supports Normal Function of Thyroid Gland
- Improves Cholesterol Levels

Here is some good to know information about the watermelons. Make sure when you pick a watermelon in the store or on the farm or at some kind of a market, make sure that you choose fully ripened watermelon, because there was bunch of research and it was conducted that fully ripened fruits that are close to being spoiled are much higher in antioxidants then the early picked fruits. When choosing which one to take home with you, try choosing the one with a deeper color and if you choose the whole and uncut one then there has to be a yellow spot on one of the sides, that is the side it was laying on, if there is no yellow spot then the watermelon was picked to early. Also, the less of white lines on top of the green deep color the better. Not only do they taste good but they also are pretty healthy. The Nutrients in Watermelon are:
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin B1
- Vitamin B2
- Vitamin B3
- Vitamin B6
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin E
- Calcium

The Orange juice is good but the actual orange is even better. So, now that you know what an actual orange contains in itself go ahead and enjoy it.
